Dissecting microscope appearance of small bowel mucosa in children.
نویسنده
چکیده
The technique of small bowel biopsy is now well established in childhood, but reports have largely concentrated on the histological appearances and enzyme activity of the biopsied mucosa (Anderson and Townley, 1962; Burke, Kerry, and Anderson, 1965; Kerpel-Fronius, Jani, and Fekete, 1966; Kuitunen, 1966; Launiala, Kuitunen, and Visakorpi, 1966; Nordio, Lamedica, Berio, and Vignola, 1966; Townley, Khaw, and Shwachman, 1965). While the value of examination of the biopsied mucosa with the dissecting microscope has been demonstrated in adult patients, few paediatric papers have stressed its value (Burman, 1965; Sheldon and Tempany, 1966; Shmerling, 1965; Stanfield, Hutt, and Tunnicliffe, 1965). The purpose of this paper is to record the dissecting microscope appearances of 36 duodenal or jejunal biopsies from Australian children with the malabsorption syndrome or chronic diarrhoea.

متن کاملUniformity of dissecting microscope appearances in proximal small intestine.
The uniformity of mucosal morphology within the distal duodenum and the first loop of jejunum, ie, the area usually biopsied, was examined at necropsy in 116 children. In those with no evidence of gastrointestinal disease there was no significant variation within this area, but in 25 children with mucosal abnormality, variation occurred within a small area. The crests of the plicae circulares w...

Two hundred and seventy-eight duodenal biopsy specimens taken consecutively from children using either a single port paediatric Crosby capsule or a double port modification were examined both histologically and by dissecting microscopy, in order to determine the incidence of patchy mucosal lesions. One hundred and six specimens were abnormal and 49 of these were patchy. Patchy lesions occurred ...
متن کاملRadiographic Presentations of Intussusception in Plain Abdominal X-Ray
Intussusception is the most common cause of intestinal obstraction in children aged 3 months to 6 years. Complete understanding of its clinical and radiographic manifestations can play a major role in the early diagnosis and treatment and prevents its complications. In this study plain abdominal X-rays of 51 patients with intussusception were evaluated. Suggestive radiographic signs of the dise...
